Below is a look at what we know so far as the investigation into her death continues:
MOORE REPORTED MISSING
Moore was first reported missing on June 12, having last been seen at a Planet Fitness location on Whiteford Way in Lexington the evening prior.
Lexington police said she was known to frequent the gym. Moore was seen walking away from Planet Fitness toward woods behind a nearby Lowe’s Home Improvement store.
She was wearing an olive green zip-up hoodie with black athletic pants, with a photo of Moore at the gym later released by police.
SEARCH INTENSIFIES
The search intensified on June 15, when a large presence of law enforcement and first responders were seen near the Lowe’s location.
At the time, the effort was not considered a recovery operation – but rather an attempted to rule out one less place Moore could be.
During that search, Lexington Police Department Missy Silcox told WIS that Moore’s husband was the person who reported her missing. At that time, Silcox also said they did not suspect foul play, nor did they believe she was in any imminent danger.
ANOTHER IMAGE RELEASED
The following day, Lexington police released another image showing Moore.
This time, she was seen walking through the parking lot of the Publix location on Old Cherokee Road, a half-mile from the Planet Fitness. The footage was also taken nearly three hours after she was seen at the gym.
WIS also spoke with nearby neighbors who saw Moore on their doorbell described her as appearing confused.
John Moore, who is not related, and Sarah Burleson shared footage showing Elena picking up food dropped off by a delivery driver and trying to go inside when John Moore opened the door.
An hour later, Burleson said she saw Elena outside a neighbors apartment looking through packages. When asked what she was doing, Burleson said Elena responded by saying she “had no idea.”
“Her confusion, it worries me,” Burleson told WIS. “If she was confused, like a week before she went missing, was she in that same kind of confusion state that night?“
BODY FOUND
On the afternoon of June 17, five days after she was last seen, Moore’s body was discovered near Lakeside Middle School – which is around 1.5 miles from the Publix and nearly two miles from the Planet Fitness.
